Tommy Rees Joins Atlanta Falcons as Offensive Coordinator
The Atlanta Falcons have officially hired Tommy Rees as their new offensive coordinator, bringing him on board under the leadership of newly appointed head coach Kevin Stefanski. This marks a reunion between the two, following their previous collaboration with the Cleveland Browns.
Rees, who spent the last two seasons in Cleveland, was promoted to offensive coordinator for the Browns in 2025 after a long tenure at Notre Dame and Alabama. Despite the Browns’ struggles under Stefanski’s leadership, including a challenging quarterback situation, both coaches earned respect for their work in developing offenses.
Stefanski, who was dismissed as the Browns’ head coach earlier this month after six seasons, quickly found a new opportunity with the Falcons. His hiring followed the firing of Atlanta’s previous head coach, Raheem Morris, and general manager Terry Fontenot. Once the Falcons’ leadership changes were finalized, Rees emerged as the top candidate for the offensive coordinator position.
Although Stefanski’s tenure in Cleveland was marked by inconsistency, including only a combined eight wins over the past two seasons, his coaching pedigree is solid, having won two Coach of the Year awards. He now aims to turn things around for the Falcons, a team that finished tied at the top of the NFC South last season with an 8-9 record.
While the quarterback situation in Atlanta remains uncertain — with Michael Penix Jr. recovering from an ACL injury and questions surrounding Kirk Cousins’ future — Stefanski and Rees are poised to build a more stable offensive unit. The duo’s prior success in Cleveland suggests they could be a perfect fit to help rebuild the Falcons and push the team back into playoff contention.
